Krack Attack: Security Flaw Puts Every Wi-Fi Connection at Risk. NBC News October 16, 2017
These articles and more hit the ground after security researchers published a paper outlining critical vulnerability of every wi-fi connection, including the one in your home.
Here’s how it works: when you connect a new device to your wi-fi network and enter a password, an attacker can see it and decrypt much of what happens on the network, from seeing the data transmitted to injecting their own data like ransomware or malware, especially if you visit websites that start with http. Linux and Android devices are the most vulnerable.
Here’s how ClickAway can help. Schedule an onsite visit to your home or business and we’ll see if all your connected devices are safe from wi-fi attacks or need to be updated software wise. Not a lot of devices have been patched for KRACK wi-fi attacks yet but they will soon. Even having one device updated will help keep the data transmitted between them safe. What needs to be updated? Your router firmware, laptop, phone, tablet and any other device on the wifi network needs to be updated immediately. By the way, most computers, phones and tablets will notify you of available updates but your router manufacturer may not.
In the meantime
Make sure you are using websites that start with HTTPS, not HTTP. It’s not perfect but HTTPS sites are much, much safer.
