How to fix Safari can’t open the page – Wi-fi connection issues

Safari can't open the page

When Safari Can’t Open The Page

Safari can’t open the page because it can’t establish a secure connection to the server. If this has happened to you, you’re not alone. Here are 5 fixes that we’ve used to help resolve the problem.

Webpage Refresh

When a network connection is interrupted, sometimes Safari will post the can’t open the page error. Try selecting the refresh button to see if the website loads correctly. If the error still occurs, go to step #2.

Is the URL Correct?

Is the URL the right one? Viruses and scammers will often try to mimic a URL but the address is not always correct.  Try typing the web address in manually if you are clicking a link that’s not working. If it’s really from Google, then it’s probably good and you need to go to step #3.

remove cache to open the page

Empty Safari Cache

Cache Clogged – Clear Safari Cache. It you go to a lot of different websites, chances are you have too many browsers stored in the cache. Click Safari in the upper right hand corner and select preferences. Don’t select clear history, that won’t help. In the next window that opens, select privacy and then manage website data. Give website cache a few seconds to load. Now select remove all and done. Now try that website again. If the problem persists, go to step #4.

Try a Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Need a VPN? The website you want to open may be blocked in your area. A virtual private network is a good work around. ClickAway can suggest a goof VPN or you can search Google for trusted VPN providers. Once installed and setup, see if the page opens. If not, try our last resort with #5.

Change DNS Server

Switch DNS Server to a Google server ( Sometimes the DNS server you’re assigned to goes down or is very slow. At that moment, Safari will give a can’t open the page error.  To switch temporarily, select system preferences on the dock or in Launchpad. Select network on the 3rdrow. Now click advanced on the bottom right hand corner of that window.  Select the DNS tab and the plus sign to add a server and type and ok. Try the website again.

Other issues with slow internet speeds can be easily fixed as well. Give ClickAway a call and we’ll be happy to give you some steps to try or book an onsite call for an even faster resolution of wifi problems.
