Before we begin, the usual warnings apply. In all cases, be connected to (or know the SSID and password for) your local Wi-Fi. Make a fresh backup of your old phone’s data. Depending on which kind of migration you’re doing, know your Google or iCloud ID and password.

Make sure that you’ve updated your old phone’s operating system as much as you can before you start (although if you’re moving from Android to an iPhone, stay away from Android Pie

For those that don’t use the SIM card to store contacts, we transfer your contacts from the old phone’s built-in memory to the SIM card by using the old phone’s SIM manager interface.

Other phones have a microSD card. If you’ve elected to copy files here via the file manager on your phone, move your data on a microSD card. The microSD slot is typically located on the left or right hand side of the phone or behind the battery cover on the back. The slot is approximately 11 millimeters wide.

You may also recognize the microSD logo printed near the slot or on the flap covering the slot. If your phone has a microSD slot, insert a microSD card and navigate to the file manager in your phone. Reaching this interface varies between phones.

From here, you can copy all applicable files to your microSD card. Refer to your manual for specific instructions or stop in and we’ll show you how. Alternately, you may need to navigate to the ringtones manager or photo manager and individually select each file and choose to copy it to your microSD card. Remove the card and insert it into your new phone. Your new phone should recognize the files automatically.

Using Backup Assistant to Protect Your Contacts:

If you upgrade often, loose things easily, tend to damage your phone alot or just want peace of mind that all your contacts remain intact, this is a good option. Using your old phone, select Backup Assistant. Run the application and follow the on-screen instructions. Once you activate your new phone, select Backup Assistant again and follow the on-screen instructions to restore your saved contacts. This is a safe way to transfer data to new phone.

Saving Files to Your Computer

To save files to your computer, connect your phone using the included USB cable. You may need to install the drivers included with your phone. Using the included software, transfer the files onto your computer. Alternately, choose “USB Mass Storage” in your phone’s menu. Once your phone is in USB Mass Storage mode, you can browse the contents and copy and move files as if it were an external hard drive.

Copy the files to your computer. On your new phone, connect using the included software or as a USB Mass Storage device and move the saved files to your new phone.

Other Tips and Warnings:

The locations of the SIM card and microSD card will vary depending on model. Refer to the manual to pinpoint the precise locations of these card slots. Some files cannot be copied, due to copyright restrictions.
