Scams to Avoid Beware the Hoax of Online PC Cleaner Programs You’re online and up pops a window, “get your PC Scanned for FREE.”
These “registry cleaners” are mostly located offshore and con computer users into thinking that any virus can be removed and data repaired remotely. More often than not they claim to find corruption that doesn't even exist. These cleaners do a free scan all right but the 1000's of errors they find in your PC are actually just minor tracking cookies and unused registry items. But they convince you otherwise, and demand you shell out $299/year for their service where they run a few FREE antivirus and registry cleaner programs. These con artists are similar to the rogue antivirus viruses that are making their rounds, except there is a real person on the phone. Want more proof? I logged onto one “clean pc-type” program and went to their parent company. There I found reviews, not by fake users but by independent organizations. Here’s one: http://www.toptenreviews.com/ Effectiveness:
The strength of
the “XYZ system” is in the sheer number of users, and XYZ has plenty. It needs
a healthy dose of additional security measures to ensure better protection. Unfortunately,
the software hasn’t been tested by AV-Test, AV Comparatives, ICSA labs or the
Virus Bulletin. The software doesn’t include any in-program help. The online help is also pretty lacking. There
is a decent FAQs section available, but live assistance over the phone or live
chat is limited to customers who have paid for the Live Help Desk. Summary: XYZ PC clean program is hard to recommend when there are so many better antivirus programs. We definitely recommend you look at a better antivirus application. There are similar scams in other products that are only designed
to relieve you of your cash. You may have heard that it is important to run a
scan over your registry and to clear it of fragments or errors, hence you'll be
willing to splash out hard earned cash to have an online registry cleaner correct your slow running computer. The best and safest sort of registry cleaner must be
downloaded, operated and installed on the computer itself. Disinfecting is NOT a remote/online option But if your computer is really infected by Malware, virus and the like, it can’t be fixed remotely. ClickAway has been repairing and cleaning PCs and Macs for over 10 years and while we do plenty of remote support for customers, there is NO WAY a computer system can be properly cleaned and disinfected remotely or with automated tools. Anyone who claims they can do this is not truthful or not competent enough to know how to do a proper job. We disinfect on-site or in-store but we have to touch the computer. Every honest computer repair person does. Stop these con artists getting your identity or money The private details that you have kept safe on your computer should stay safe. There's no denying the fact that registry errors are causing computers to slow down, freeze or crash. It is also a fact that software must be deployed to correct the registry. A good antivirus program is the only real way to combat the corruption in your registry. A couple of my recommendations for AntiVirus; TrendMicro, Kaspersky, Norton for paid, and AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials, and Avast for free. If
you have someone work on your PC, do it locally but not before doing your
research and reading reviews on Yelp and Angie's List, and seeing if they are
